In a grand and opulent affair, the Kyabazinga of Busoga, accompanied by all the splendor befitting his royal status, wed Jovia Mutesi, who now assumes the title of Inhebantu (Queen). The ceremony took place at Christ Cathedral Bugembe, with no major incidents marring the event.
Despite the overshadowing presence of Alison Nadiope, a woman claiming to be the legal wife of the Kyabazinga, the wedding proceeded smoothly, starting with Gabula's departure from Bugabula Palace in a blue jacket and traditional tunic. Meanwhile, Jovia embarked on her journey from Mayuge in a procession of Range Rover cars. The couple eventually met at Bugembe Cathedral, situated atop Bugembe Hill.
Although the event was scheduled to begin at 11:00 am, delays were inevitable as the two convoys, each representing the respective royals, were not in close proximity. Nevertheless, the anticipation grew, and Gabula transformed into his regal attire adorned with various Busoga regalia, sporting his signature channel-O beard. He patiently awaited his bride, while her convoy encountered challenges navigating through the heavy traffic.
Jovia Mutesi, likely filled with excitement and nervousness, requested a little extra time before walking down the aisle. Finally, when the moment arrived, the atmosphere was electric, and everyone eagerly made their way to the ceremony.
Leading the liturgical proceedings was Archbishop Stephen Kazimba Mugalu, who had recently officiated the renewal of vows for President Museveni and Janet Museveni. Now, he presided over another momentous occasion, the Busoga Royal wedding, a rare event that had not taken place in the last 50 years.
Time seemed to both fly and stand still, teetering between intense joy and potential chaos. Fortunately, this particular wedding was consumed by overwhelming happiness, although there lingered the possibility of Alison Nadiope following through with her earlier threats.
As the crucial moment approached, Archbishop Kazimba called for anyone with an objection that could halt the marriage. A hush fell upon the tent as all eyes scanned the surroundings. Any dissenting voice would have reverberated through the silence. To everyone's immense relief, the proceedings continued smoothly, accompanied by jubilation, vows, and the exchange of rings.
The ceremony garnered the attendance of thousands of guests, eagerly anticipating the union of Kyabazinga Nadiope IV, who had remained a bachelor since assuming the throne. The atmosphere in the cathedral erupted with applause as the Queen, who had not made a public appearance since the engagement announcement a month prior, made her entrance at Bugembe, signaling the commencement of the function.
Gabula and Jovia are now officially known as Isebantu and Inhebantu, respectively. A lavish reception is currently underway at Igenge Palace in Bugembe, marking the joyous celebration of their union.
