Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip have resulted in the deaths and injuries of numerous civilians, including an attack on a school in the Jabaliya refugee camp in northern Gaza. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees reported that dozens of displaced civilians were killed or wounded in the airstrikes. Survivors described the scenes as horrifying, with the ground littered with the bodies of women and children.
The UNRWA Commissioner-General, Philippe Lazzarini, took to social media to express his concern and called for an immediate humanitarian cease-fire to prevent further loss of life. In response, the Israeli military stated that their operations in the Jabaliya area were aimed at targeting terrorists while minimizing harm to civilians.
Israel has also issued warnings to civilians in southern Gaza, urging them to leave certain areas. The Israeli government has emphasized the importance of protecting civilians and has offered assistance to those who need to relocate. However, the airstrikes in Khan Younis and its surroundings have resulted in the deaths of at least 47 Palestinians, according to medics.
The World Health Organization led a joint humanitarian mission to Shifa Hospital, which has been severely affected by the ongoing conflict. The hospital, once a leading medical facility in Gaza, has been described as a "death zone." While efforts are being made to evacuate the remaining patients and health workers to other medical facilities in southern Gaza, the situation remains critical.
Meanwhile, telecommunications services in Gaza have been partially restored after fuel shipments arrived. The Palestinian telecommunications company, Paltel, managed to bring back internet and phone services, which had been disrupted, affecting critical aid deliveries by the United Nations.
The overall toll of the conflict continues to rise, with Palestinian authorities in Gaza reporting that over 12,000 people, including 5,000 children, have been killed since the Israeli offensive began in response to a Hamas terror attack. However, these figures have not been updated recently due to the collapse of services and communication in the area. Israel has also suffered casualties, with 57 soldiers killed since entering the territory.
The situation in Gaza remains highly volatile, with urgent calls for an immediate cease-fire and efforts to alleviate the humanitarian crisis. The international community continues to monitor the conflict closely in hopes of finding a peaceful resolution to the ongoing violence.
