Tororo district authorities apprehended Georgewell Emanu, a well-known prophet and fish farmer associated with the Miraculous Synagogue Church Ministries, on the late evening of Wednesday, November 15, 2023.
The arrest was made following information provided by local residents in Oriyoi Village, Morikatipe sub-county. They reported that Emanu was unlawfully keeping monkeys, which posed a risk to students at Oriyoi Primary School. Additionally, there were allegations of his involvement in cult activities.
In response to these claims, the police collaborated with the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) and conducted a search at Emanu's residence.
During the search at his home in Oriyoi Village, Morikatipe sub-county, law enforcement discovered a pistol along with 31 rounds of ammunition, 23 teargas canisters, car number plates, and opium seeds.
Pastor Georgewell Emanu is facing charges related to the possession of illicit items and is currently in police custody while further investigations are underway.
