President Paul Kagame of Rwanda has implemented a policy of visa-free travel for all African citizens, making Rwanda the fourth country on the continent to do so. In a statement on Thursday, President Kagame emphasized that any African individual can freely travel to Rwanda without the need to pay for a visa. The decision aims to leverage Africa's expanding tourism market, driven by the rising middle class across the continent.
Rwanda has been actively promoting its tourism sector and has collaborated with football clubs such as Arsenal and Bayern Munich to showcase the country as an attractive tourist destination. As a result of this new policy, Rwanda joins Seychelles,
The Gambia, and Benin as the only African nations that offer visa-free entry to all citizens of the continent.
Additionally, President William Ruto of Kenya recently announced that Kenya plans to eliminate visa requirements for all African visitors by 2024. Several other African countries have also established bilateral agreements for visa-free travel, including recent partnerships between Ghana and South Africa, as well as Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
