Kabale's Rugarama School of Nursing to Graduate 287 Students

NEWS - Rugarama School of Nursing and Midwifery is preparing to hold its 4th graduation ceremony, where a total of 287 students will receive their well-deserved certificates. Asiimwe Darius, the Academic Registrar of the school, announced this during a press conference at the school grounds in Rugarama, Kabale Municipality's Northern division. The purpose of the gathering was to unveil the upcoming ceremony, which is scheduled to take place on Friday, November 3rd, 2023, at St. Peter's Cathedral grounds in Rugarama.

According to Asiimwe, out of the 287 graduates, 185 are Nurses and 102 are Midwives. The graduating class is well-distributed, with 66 male and 221 female graduates. This is a notable increase compared to the previous graduation, which saw a total of 221 graduates, including 120 Nurses, 101 Midwives, 18 male graduates, and 203 female graduates.

Asiimwe also highlighted the impressive growth of the school since its establishment in 2013. Initially starting with only 23 students and two courses, it has now grown to enroll 350 students. Notably, the school has experienced a significant rise in male student enrollment, increasing from 8% in 2021 to an impressive 30% in 2023.

However, Asiimwe emphasized that the school faces a significant challenge due to a shortage of suitable buildings to accommodate the growing student population. Despite the potential to educate more students, the institution's progress is hindered by inadequate infrastructure.

To address this issue, Darius called upon everyone to attend the graduation ceremony and contribute to the fundraising campaign. The funds raised will be used to complete the construction of a much-needed school building.

In addition to the graduation ceremony, the school will also celebrate its 10th anniversary on the same day, marking a decade of dedicated service in nurturing the next generation of nurses and midwives.

Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, Minister for ICT & National Guidance, will serve as the chief guest for this significant event.

Rugarama School of Nursing and Midwifery was established in November 2013 by the Diocese of Kigezi. It operates under the auspices of the Ugandan government through the Ministry of Education and Sports (BTVET Department) and the Ministry of Health (Uganda Nurse and Midwives Council- UNMC).
