The Diocese of Kigezi, which encompasses Kabale, Rukiga, and Rubanda Districts, is actively working towards raising 600 Million Shillings for the construction of a tower at St. Peter's Cathedral Church-Rugarama in Kabale District.
According to Can Johnson Baryantuma Munono, the head of laity in the Diocese, and Can Engineer Ivan Batuma, the architectural design of St. Peter's Cathedral Rugarama was created by German architects. The cathedral, inaugurated by the Most Reverend and Right Honourable Lord Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. George Leonard Carey, on May 11, 1998, holds great historical significance.
Munono and Batuma disclosed that the tower was initially intended for the older church cathedral, which currently serves as the library for Bishop Barham University College. They shared that the tower's features would include two vestries, washrooms, two offices, a boardroom, and a conference room.
During the thanksgiving service dedicated to fundraising for the tower at St. Peter's Cathedral Rugarama, the Kabale District Woman Member of Parliament donated 100 bags of cement. She urged fellow Christians to embrace unity and mutual care as a reflection of God's love. The Minister of State for Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives, Honorable David Bahati, emphasized the significance of Christian unity and contributed Ugx 26 Million towards the cause.
In his sermon, the Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi, Rt Rev Gaddie Akanjuna, encouraged Christians to express gratitude to God and to utilize their talents and responsibilities to serve Him wholeheartedly.
A total of Ugx 85 Million and 510 bags of cement were collected through both cash donations and pledges during the fundraising campaign.
