A 38-year-old bus conductor named Farida Nabakooza has been apprehended in Kampala, Uganda, on allegations of trafficking refugee children to Eastern DR Congo. It is believed that her intention was to recruit them into a newly formed rebel group led by a person named Irweneko. The arrest took place on November 6, 2023, while Nabakooza was transporting five refugee children from Nakivale refugee resettlement camp to Eastern DR Congo. Two of the victims managed to escape during the journey.
In a separate incident, Abdul Rashid Kyoto, also known as Njovu, a rebel commander associated with the Allied Democratic Force (ADF), has been arrested for his involvement in the murder of foreign tourists at Queen Elizabeth National Park. Kyoto is facing multiple charges, including terrorism, aggravated murder, aggravated robbery, and belonging to a terrorist organization. These charges have been authorized by the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
With the festive season approaching, the police are urging the public, especially those involved in financial services like village banks and SACCOs, to remain vigilant with their clients. This caution comes in response to a rise in reported cases of aggravated robbery throughout the country.
