Police in Bukomansimbi District have taken a couple into custody on allegations of severely burning their own biological son. The incident occurred in Kyaziiza Village, Bukango Sub County. It is reported that the couple used a hot machete from a furnace to burn the child's buttocks and fingers as a form of punishment for stealing sauce.
The child's condition was not immediately discovered, and by the time residents realized the extent of his injuries, he was already in a deteriorating state. The grandfather of the victim, Mr. Joseph Kafeero, explained that his daughter sought his help after noticing pus oozing from the boy's burnt buttocks. Concerned residents informed the police, who promptly intervened and apprehended the couple.
Mr. Bernard Kiiba, a clinical officer at Mukama Afaayo Medical Clinic, where the survivor is currently receiving treatment, expressed concern about the boy's malnourished state and emphasized the efforts being made to save his life. Once the police investigation is complete, the survivor will be transferred to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital for further medical attention.
When approached by the news outlet, the survivor accused his father of being responsible for burning him. The couple, however, blamed each other for the torture inflicted on their son. The mother claimed that her husband had frequently beaten their child, and she had been warned not to intervene. The father, on the other hand, denied these accusations and stated that it was his wife who refused to provide food for their son.
Bukomansimbi Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Mr. Fred Kalema, confirmed the arrest and assured that the couple would face appropriate charges. He also cautioned parents against resorting to corporal punishment when disciplining their children.
