Authorities have reported that 30 persons have now perished as a result of a boat tragedy on Lake Victoria last week.
Whereas by Saturday morning, 25 victims had been found, the commander of the Police Marine Unit, Ubaldo Bamunoba, has announced that further dead have been found.
In addition to the 20 victims found on Wednesday, three more bodies were found on Saturday morning and two more later that day, according to Bamunoba.
He said that the UPDF Fisheries Protection Unit, the UPDF Marine Divers, and the fishing community are all still conducting searches in the Lake Victoria seas.
In the early-morning disaster on Wednesday, a boat in Lake Victoria capsized while carrying 34 people.
The boat, which was carrying charcoal, fresh food, silver fish, and other items, was its route from the Lwanabatya landing site in the Kalangala district to the Kasenyi landing site in Entebbe when it sank due to its inability to navigate the lake during the night's strong winds.
Overloading and poor road conditions have both received some of the blame for the disaster.
According to reports, 10 of the boat's passengers made it out alive.
While the tragedy occurred on Wednesday, search efforts for missionaries on the boat were still ongoing on Saturday, three days after the catastrophe.
The search efforts were impeded by the inclement weather, which included strong gusts on Lake Victoria.
