Woman Detained for Allegedly Using Counterfeit Notes While Christmas Shopping


A 36-year-old woman has been apprehended and is currently under custody at Lira Central Police Station on suspicions of engaging in Christmas shopping using counterfeit currency. The North Kyoga regional police spokesperson, Mr. Patrick Jimmy Okema, has confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect was found in possession of counterfeit notes amounting to Shs1,690,000. According to reports, on December 22, 2023, the suspect allegedly visited four shops in Amach Trading Centre, where she attempted to make purchases using the counterfeit money. Upon discovery, she was promptly arrested, and the counterfeit notes were seized. Mr. Okema issued a statement providing details of the incident.
