Archbishop finds no couple that marry when still virgins. No one won the award

Archbishop Steven Kazimba Mugalu of the Church of Uganda (COU) has recently made a decision to discontinue the practice of awarding women who enter matrimony as virgins. This change comes after years of Archbishop Kazimba promoting a campaign to recognize and reward women who maintained their virginity until marriage.

Previously, when he served as the Bishop of Mityana Diocese, Archbishop Kazimba initiated this campaign, which included a cash reward for school-going girls who remained virgins. To determine their virginity status, the girls had to undergo an assessment conducted by a team of knowledgeable and respected born-again women.

However, the Archbishop has now decided to end this practice. The reasons behind this change in stance have not been explicitly stated, but it appears that Archbishop Kazimba has reconsidered the appropriateness and effectiveness of such rewards.

It is worth noting that Archbishop Kazimba's decision has generated some discussions and reactions within the community. Prominent figures like Bobi Wine have confirmed their attendance at events where this topic will be discussed, indicating a broader conversation about societal expectations and the role of women in Uganda.

This shift in Archbishop Kazimba's position reflects a growing awareness of the need for more inclusive and respectful approaches to gender matters. As society progresses, it is crucial to foster conversations that promote gender equality, respect individual choices, and challenge harmful stereotypes.
