To address the issue of traffic congestion in Kampala, the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has announced its intention to demolish five roundabouts.
Among the roundabouts scheduled for demolition are Mulago roundabout, Sheraton roundabout, and Standard Charted Bank roundabout, among others.
KCCA spokesperson Simon Kasyate emphasized that the persistent traffic jams have long been a concern for Kampala residents. The decision to remove these roundabouts demonstrates the city's commitment to finding innovative solutions in order to alleviate the increasing traffic problems.
Simon further explained that these particular roundabouts have consistently caused bottlenecks in the city's road network, leading to daily frustrations for commuters and hindering transportation efficiency.
The removal of these roundabouts is part of a larger strategy by KCCA to streamline traffic flow, alleviate congestion, and enhance overall urban mobility in Kampala as the city moves towards its smart city agenda.
The project is expected to commence soon, with careful planning aimed at minimizing disruptions during the construction phase. KCCA encourages residents and commuters to stay informed about the project's progress and consider alternative routes during the construction period.
