In a recent press statement dated November 22, 2023, the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) announced the unveiling of nine stadiums for the upcoming AFCON2027 Tournament, which is set to be co-hosted by Uganda and Kenya.
Among the stadiums, seven are located in Kampala, namely MTN Omondi Stadium, Mubs Playground, Kyambogo University Playground, Old Kampala SS Playground, Makerere Playground, Muteesa II Stadium Wankulukuku, and Makindye Officers’ Mess. The remaining two stadiums, Boma Ground in Hoima and Boma Ground in Masindi, are in close proximity to the Hoima Stadium, which was chosen as a replacement for Akii-bua Stadium in Lira.
A comprehensive inspection of the facilities was conducted over a two-day period, led by the State Minister of Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang. The inspection team consisted of officials from the Ministry of Education and Sports, the National Council of Sports, and FUFA. The purpose of the inspection was to ensure that the stadiums meet the necessary standards and are accessible to the local communities.
FUFA has expressed its commitment to developing and improving the stadiums to ensure they meet the desired standards for the tournament. The Boma Ground in Hoima and Boma Ground in Masindi were specifically inspected as they are expected to be utilized by the teams associated with the Hoima Stadium.
The unveiling of these stadiums marks an important milestone in the preparations for the AFCON2027 Tournament. With the dedication and efforts of FUFA, Uganda and Kenya are poised to host a successful and memorable championship.
