As the Ballon d'Or ceremony is in 25 days to come which will be held on the same day as Diego Maradona’s birthday, we bring to you who is the favourite to win it .
Until 2021, the Ballon d'Or was awarded based on player performance during the calendar year. Since 2022, jurors have been instructed to take into account the previous season.
There are 30 male nominees in the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Harry Kane, Victor Osmhen to mention a few but Messi and Haaland are seen as the favourites to win this Balloon d'Or.
Lionel Messi is the overwhelming favourite to win the award for the eighth time, compared to Erling Haaland which would extend his existing record of seven Ballon d'Or wins.
His current best price is a mere 1/6. He wasn't even included on the nominee list in 2022.
In 2023/24, the Argentina star has struck a stunning 11 goals in 11 appearances for Inter Miami.
With his country, he won the 2021 Copa América and the 2022 FIFA World Cup which would earn more points to him.
Erling Haaland finished the 22/23 compaign with 52 goals and lifting a treble (FA, PREMIER LEAGUE, and the UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE) with the citizens puting a record of scoring more premier league goals in a single season.
He was also named the PFA player of the year. I think we can all agree that Leo Messi is the most deserving player of the Ballon d’Or
