Micho, the coach of the Uganda Cranes, has lost his position. He took over as team manager in 2021 after Uganda failed to make it to the Cameroon-hosted Africa Cup of Nations. Jonathan McKinstry was replaced as the interim coach prior to him by Abdallah Mubiru.
Because the Uganda Cranes failed to earn a spot in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Micho has been fired. Only the top two teams from their group, Algeria and Tanzania, advanced to the Ivory Coast. They were third in their group.
The Ugandan Football Federation (Fufa) and Micho reached an agreement to end his contract on Thursday, September 14, 2023. He was thanked by Fufa for his efforts while serving as the coach.
Micho has already abandoned the Ugandan team twice. He first left in 2017 and made a three-year deal to return in July 2021.
Uganda made its first appearance at the 2019 Afcon under Micho's leadership after a 39-year absence. But during his second season, the squad underwent adjustments, and he came under fire from football fans.
With two away victories over Niger (0-2) and Tanzania (0-1) and a draw against Niger (1-1) at Kitende, Uganda Cranes gained seven points in the most recent qualifiers. Group F's top two finishers were Algeria (16 points) and Tanzania (8 points), with Uganda coming in third.
