Boat accident at Lake Victoria killing 20 people. Here is the cause of the accident

In the Lake Victoria waters off the coast of Uganda, a boat carrying too many people capsized, killing at least 20 and leaving five people missing.


According to police, the ship was carrying fish, charcoal, and fresh groceries when the disaster occurred around 5am on Wednesday (2:00 GMT).


The police posted on X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter, that "overloading and bad weather are to blame for [the] accident."


It stated that nine passengers had been saved.

Rescue operations to find the missing people, according to the police, are in progress.


We urge those who go on waterways to always wear life jackets and to avoid overloading their vessels, it continued.
