Gen Katumba Wamala, the minister of works and transport, has asked the people of the Tororo district to support government activities rather than destroy railroad lines.
The Tororo-Gulu meter gauge railway line, which runs 382 KM, has undergone renovation, and the minister made these statements at the beginning of those efforts.
The railway line is anticipated to enhance regional and local freight transit.
For the renovation of the line, the Uganda Railways Corporation and China Railways and Bridges signed a deal.
It is projected that the building will take two years.
The minister reaffirmed the intention of the administration to launch the Standard Gauge Railway.
The governments of Kenya and Uganda have already inked a deal to make this project possible and improve connection.
Gen. Katumba emphasized that the purpose of these railway lines is to lower business expenses and promote the oil industry.
He urged the courts to impose severe punishments on anyone who damage railroad lines.
Additionally, he said that the contractors building the railway lines, China Roads and Bridges Limited, would provide five scholarships for deserving students.
He claimed that "proper compensation has now resolved land disputes that had delayed the start of the works."
In addition, Bageya asked the Uganda Railways Corporation to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of their rail services.
The district chairwoman requested that Tororo residents be given employment possibilities by the contracting company, China Roads and Bridges.
They urged the government to start using the Standard Gauge Railway as soon as possible.
The China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) and the government of Uganda agreed on a contract in April this year for the rehabilitation of the Tororo to Gulu stretch of the meter gauge railway line.
Before arriving at the Gulu Logistics Hub (GLH), this 375-kilometer railway line travels through Mbale, Soroti, and Lira, bringing the northern corridor's overall length to more than 700 kilometers.
The Tororo-Gulu line rehabilitation is anticipated to take 24 months, plus an additional month for the contractor to gather the required supplies, tools, and labor force.
The government of Uganda is fully funding this initiative, which aims to increase the quantity and caliber of vital infrastructure for Uganda's competitiveness.
The initiative also aims to develop a comprehensive network of services and infrastructure for transportation across the nation.
To relieve traffic on the highways, Uganda still needs to repair the meter gauge railway built during colonial times.
The China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) was hired for an 84 billion shilling project to renovate the main railway line between Malaba and Kampala.
